Bael Leaf: Beloved of Shiva

In India, Bael leaf is used in the worship of Shiva as its three-pronged leaf is believed to symbolize Shiva’s trident. The three-pronged leaf is also associated with the three functions of creation, preservation, and destruction.

Bael is also known as Bengal quince, bilva, golden apple, and wood apple. The fruit of the Bael tree is dried and eaten as candy, or made into a sweet drink — the leaves and shoots are consumed as vegetables.
